Manuscript Preparation
Journal of Bioarchaeologal Research publishes articles regarding all biological aspects concerning the archaeological field.
The Journal publishes RESEARCH ARTICLE, CASE REPORT, SHORT COMMUNICATIONS, and LETTER TO EDITOR for the following sections:
- Osteoarchaeology
- Zooarchaeology
- Museology
- Entomology
- Paleopathology
The manuscript must be submitted via website.

Highlights:
Please submit highlights are points that convey the main results of your research. You can enter up to five (min three) . The length of each cannot exceed 100 characters (including spaces).
Type of manuscript:
RESEARCH ARTICLES: All manuscripts should be organized as follows: title page, blinded manuscript, supplementary material, tables and figures. The manuscript organized as follows: blinded title page, abstract, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, acknowledgments, references, figure legends, tables and figures (max five figures). Blinded title page has only the title of the manuscript with no author or institutional affiliation.
Abstract is limited to 350 words. The body of the manuscript is organized as follows: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion and Conclusion. This paper is limited to 6000 words including tables and references.
REVIEW ARTICLE: The manuscript should present a review on a topic within the discipline of Bioarchaeology. The paper is limited to 6000 words including tables and references.
CASE REPORT: The format for a case report should follow that for a scientific manuscript. The manuscript organized as follows: blinded title page, Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgments, References, Figure Legends, Tables and Figures (max four figures). Blinded title page has only the title of the manuscript with no author or institutional affiliation.
The Abstract is limited to 250 words and must be divided in: Aim, Material and Methods, Results, Disucssion and Conclusion.
This paper must be no more than 4000 words including tables and citations with a total of five figures and/or tables permitted.
SHORT COMMUNICATION: Are limited to 3000 words and are not subdivided. All the required parts should be given in a single section, without section heading in the body of the text.
The paper should contain an abstract, limited to 100 words, main body and references, and no more than 6 figures or tables, combined.
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: should not exceed 1000 words of text, one figure or table and up to six references.
Submitting Manuscript
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
Papers must not have already been published or submitted for publication elsewhere.
Papers must follow the instruction to Authors in Author Guidelines.
The submission form must contain the full names of ALL authors, using the button "ADD CONTRIBUTORS" with capital letters only for the first letter of authors’ names. If the submission has missed the co-authors name, it is not possible to add them later and THE SUBMISSION MUST BE REPEATED.
The manuscript text file should include tables and tables and figure legends. Figures and Appendices with supplementary material should be uploaded separately. Figures prepared in jpeg/tiff format (or high-resolution pdf)
Make sure all references are complete and correct and they follow the guidelines of the Journal. Also make sure all references cited in the text are listed in the reference list and vice versa!
With this submission, you agree, in the name and on behalf of any co-authors too, to the use of personal data collected for each purpose connected with this registration, to receive promotional material and, for any other purposes that may be necessary pursuant to EU Reg. N. 679/2016 and of the Legislative Decree n. 101/2018, as well as any other provision on the subject.
The received articles are evaluated by the editorial team before sending them to the reviewers.
Journal articles are Peer-reviewed. The articles are written by experts and are reviewed by several other experts in the field before the article is published in the journal in order to ensure the article’s quality.
This journal uses double-blind review, which means that both the reviewer and author identities are concealed from the reviewers, and vice versa, throughout the review process.
To help this, authors must ensure that their manuscripts are prepared in a way that does not show their identity.
Preparation guidelines
Papers must be submitted in English. Papers are accepted on the understanding that they may be subject to editorial revision. All Original Articles are subject to double review and authors are urged to be brief.
12-point type in one of the standard fonts (Times, Helvetica Courier) is preferred. It is necessary to double-line space your text.
Title page must contain: a concise informative title; author(s) names; department or institution where work was done; name and address of author to whom correspondence about the manuscript and request for reprints should be referred, as well as fax, E-mail and telephone number; a running title of no more than 40 characters. Be certain to list the FAX number and E-mail of the corresponding author on the title page. All correspondence will be by E-mail and web site only.
An abstract of up to 250 words for all articles must be entered, with the exception of letters to the editor. Your abstract must provide a concise summary of the whole paper, not just the conclusions, and is understandable without reference to the rest of the paper. It should contain no citation(s) to other published work.
Figures and tables: figures and tables must be titled and numbered, in the order of their citation in the text. Legends are required whenever needed.
The figures can be embedded in the manuscript and should be placed at the end, after the tables, along with their legends. If Figures are prepared in jpeg or tiff (or high resolution pdf) format, they should be loaded separately as supplementary files. Photographs, drawings, graphs, diagrams must have a minimum size of 10x15 cm. A minimum resolution of 300 dpi is required.
Reference style
All references mentioned in the Reference List are cited in the text, and vice versa
In the Text:
All citations in the text s may be made (parenthetically) in this way: single author: the author's family name, comma, and the year of publication; two authors: both author's name separated by &, comma, and the year of publication; three or more authors: first author's name followed by 'et al.', comma and the year of publication. To cite several contributions in the same sentence, it is necessary to separate the references with comma and point ;.

In References section:
References should be arranged alphabetically
In your reference list, you should:
- Include all authors
- List authors by last name first, followed by a comma and initials (followed by full stops) of given names, the last name is preceded by "&"
- Include year of publication after the author's name
FOR ARTICLE:
- Include title of the article
- Enter the title of the JOURNAL in italics followed by the volume number in italics followed by the comma and the complete number of pages (example 188-189)
FOR BOOK:
- Include title of the book in italics followed by the publisher followed by the comma and the name of the city
FOR BOOK CHAPTER:
- Include the title of the contribution followed by In: Name of Editor (Ed./Eds), title of the volume in italics, and publisher

Please include a signed release of copyright to the Medicina Historica Italian Society of History of Medicine with your text. Include the title of the article being submitted, as well as the date. Include the signature of coauthors.
The corresponding author must certify that the submitted manuscript is an original article and that he is able to prove this originality if required from the Referees. Without this declaration the manuscript will not be considered.
